If You Forget Me ~ Pablo Neruda

If You Forget Me by Pablo Neruda
I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine

A Dream Within A Dream ~ Edgar Allen Poe

Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now, Thus much let me avow- You are not wrong, who deem That my days have been a dream; Yet if hope has flown away In a night, or in a day, In a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream. I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand- How few! yet how they creep Through my fingers to the deep, While I weep- while I weep! O God! can I not grasp Them with a tighter clasp? O God! can I not save One from the pitiless wave? Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream?

Inspiration-Key West

While I was having a depressing dinner alone in the hotel's restaurant tonight, it was a makeshift ballroom converted into a restaurant due to the renovations going on at the Four Points Sheraton, I also had a chance to chat online with an old friend via my PDA. It suddenly struck me, with the kind of clarity that I only read about, that I had personally "connected" with this person on a whole different level, so many years ago. It happened in the most indescriminate way and under no particular curcumstance. In retrospect, I keep thinking back to the movie "The Breakfast Club", where a group of kids share a bond during a short period of a dentention, but the intensity of it transforms them all from children into adults. Then it really dawns on me, I will always love these these people. No matter what, when, or where.

New Year's Resolutions

As with any new beginning, you have to remember from where you came. I finally decided that I've had enough "talk" about things that I still want to get accompolished in this life and I'm all about doing them now.
Anyone else have anything that they want to share or need support with?

1.) I will get my scuba cert this year.
2.) I will finish a half marathon this year.
3.) I will write more.
4.) I will laugh more.

James Lee Burke

I just found this local author (to New Orleans) and love his writing style. If you get the chance, take a look and let me know your thoughts. I also finally watched the sequel to "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and I thought that "The Girl who played with Fire" was really good. However, the first book (and movie) blew my mind. Capt Jack.
